The purpose of this page is to help you enable and use iDempiere's departmental accounting abilities

Notes

The below videos demonstrate renaming the "Activity" window to Department. This is valid; however, you should consider using a "User Element List X" option. Here are the reasons why:

The values in departments will not change often, and there are not many people who would ever need to add/change/deactivate a department.
The volume of records is low.
My not using Activity, you save it for a different (more high-volume) scenario in the future.

Enhancements - Auto Set Department Based on Warehouse

Parent/Summary Department

There are times when you need to assign a Department to a Parent or Summary Department. Here are the cryptic notes to accomplish this task. Join an open discussion to better understand how to accomplish this task.

There is a Summary checkbox in the Department (Activity) window.
Add a new field to the Department window named Parent Department.
Limit the results in this field to departments that are checked as summary=Y.
Create a summary department named "No Parent Department"
Update your reporting views to link in the Parent Department field as a new column (coalesce to "No Parent Department" when no parent linked).
