User Settings and Preferences (AD_Tab_Customization and AD_UserQuery)

The purpose of this page is to document the tables that hold user preferences and how to best use them. Here are the tables in iDempiere that store user preferences:

AD_Tab_Customization - per user settings stored when you click the customize toolbar icon
AD_UserQuery - per user settings stored when you click on the Lookup toolbar icon and save a query

There are times when you want to do the following:

Delete records from these tables. Example: you want to remove a AD_Tab_Customization records because you updated the System client => Window, Tab and Field window => Tab subtab => Grid Sequence subtab settings for a particular window. If you did not delete the customization records, users might not see your Grid Sequence changes.
Share records with other users. Example: you are an accounting department leader, and you defined a couple of saved searches that you believe others should have. You wish you could copy record and give to other users.

Exposing these tables as windows in iDempiere:

It is a common request to create windows around these tables.
Not for the purpose of modifying the records; however, for the purpose of easily sharing and deleting records.
While the exact details of creating a window from these tables is outside the scope of this page, here is a quick, general description:
- Log in as System client and System Admin role.
- Look to see if the table exists in Table and Column. If no, create them as "Client and Organization" access. You can use the Gear toolbar icon => Create Tables from Database process to bring in the columns if the table does not already exist.
- Create a new window against the desired table.
- Mark all fields as Read Only = "Y" except for AD_User. This prevents users from inaccurately changing the records.
- Give window access to the appropriate Roles.
